How do you clean your dentures?

After every meal, it is important to clean your dentures because food debris and bacteria remain after every meal. You clean your dentures with a denture brush and liquid soap. If tartar does remain on your dentures, you can remove it with cleaning vinegar. Placing the denture occasionally in a glass of water with a dash of chlorine will also remove stubborn deposits from wine, tea, etc. After this treatment, polish the denture well and rinse with water. The chlorine solution disinfects your denture. Do NOT use chlorine with a framed denture or one that uses metal. Never brush your denture with toothpaste and never use too hot water! TIP: Place a cloth or layer of water in your sink to prevent damage to your denture. If you have implants, it is imperative that you brush them thoroughly twice daily with toothpaste. If you have a bar ferrule construction, you should also keep it well cleaned under the bar with brushes and Oral-B super floss.

Massage of your gums

Clean and massage your gums regularly with a soft toothbrush. Also, don't forget to brush your tongue daily.

Taking out your dentures at night

For circulation of the mucosa and to limit bone breakdown of your upper and lower jaws, it is advisable to remove your dentures at night. Store your denture in water.

Habituation and pain

Every new prosthesis takes some getting used to. In the beginning, you may have some difficulty pronouncing words; this will go away by itself. You may also have problems with too much or too little saliva. Swallowing slowly and forcefully a few times will help. You may develop pressure spots, such as blisters in your mouth. If this is the case, make an appointment with the prosthodontist as soon as possible. If you have pain without blisters and this has not gone away after a few days, you can also make an appointment. You may need to come back several times for a minor correction. Before you come for the appointment, you must have worn the prosthesis for several hours so that we can make a correction in the right place.
