Michail Monogyios, MSc, works at De Delftse Tandartspraktijk as board-certified periodontist NVvP. He examines and treats patients with severe or complex gum problems, inflammation around dental implants, and loss of gum tissue or jawbone.
His approach centers on thorough examination, clear explanations, and treatment tailored to your personal situation. He works closely with dentists, dental hygienists, and other referring professionals.
Specialized Gum Care in Delft
Gum problems often cause little pain. However, without treatment, damage occurs to the tissue and jawbone surrounding the teeth.

Education and Expertise
Michail completed his dental degree at Charles University. He then went on to complete the three-year postgraduate master’s program in Periodontology and Implantology at the Academic Center for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA).
During this training program, he focused on the diagnosis and treatment of complex conditions affecting the gums, jawbone, and the supporting tissues around teeth and implants.
As a certified periodontist (NVvP), he participates in the quality assurance program of the Dutch Association for Periodontology. The title “Periodontist NVvP” is a protected designation and is reserved exclusively for dentists who meet the established training and quality requirements.

Treatment of Periodontitis
Periodontitis is an advanced form of inflammation of the gums and the supporting tissues around the teeth. Michail examines the condition of the gums and assesses any bone loss. Based on this, he develops a personalized treatment plan.
Periodontal Surgery
Surgical treatment is sometimes necessary for deep or hard-to-reach pockets. This makes the inflamed area more accessible for cleaning and treatment.
Regenerative Treatment
For specific types of bone loss, treatment aimed at restoring supporting tissue may sometimes be appropriate. Michail assesses on a case-by-case basis which treatment is appropriate.
Receding Gums
Receding gums can sometimes lead to sensitive tooth necks, exposed roots, or a change in appearance. After an examination, Michail will discuss the cause and appropriate treatment options.
Mucogingival Surgery
Mucogingival surgery focuses on the gums and the soft tissues surrounding teeth and implants. These procedures are used, among other things, to treat receding gums or insufficient gum coverage.
Peri-implantitis
Peri-implantitis is an inflammation around an implant that is accompanied by loss of the surrounding jawbone. Early diagnosis and targeted treatment help limit further damage.
Implantology
During his postgraduate training, Michail specialized in implantology. When developing a treatment plan, he takes into account the condition of the gums, the available jawbone, and long-term maintenance.

Whenever possible, Michail opts for a minimally invasive approach. He preserves as much healthy tissue as possible and limits the extent of the procedure to what is medically necessary.

Working with Your Own Dentist
Your own dentist will continue to play an important role. Michail will inform the referring dentist of his findings, diagnosis, treatment plan, and results.
The referring party will receive:

- Feedback After Key Stages of Treatment
- A final report
- Advice on Aftercare and Maintenance
Once your specialized treatment is complete, you will return to your own dentist as scheduled. Where necessary, De Delftse Tandartspraktijk will continue to be involved in your periodontal aftercare.
Peer Consultation for Referring Physicians
Dentists and dental hygienists are welcome to consult with us regarding a patient or a potential referral. Examples include uncertainty about the severity of periodontitis, persistent deep pockets, complex bone loss, or problems related to an implant.
Consulting in advance provides clearer guidance on the appropriate next step more quickly.
Your first appointment with Michail
During your first appointment, Michail will discuss your symptoms, general health, and dental history. This will be followed by a thorough examination of your gums and teeth.
After the examination, we will explain the diagnosis and the possible next steps. If a more extensive treatment plan is required, you will receive a cost estimate in advance.
